Voxell was engaged as part of the design team to collaborate on the development of the masterplan and design 551 attached townhouses, duplexes, and standalone homes for the Fast-Tracked Resource Consent application for Precinct A—the first stage of the development. Future stages include small apartment buildings and additional amenities that will further enhance the suburb’s vibrancy.
Plimmerton Farm is a transformative new suburb located north of Porirua City, adjacent to the charming Plimmerton Village and train station. This development is consented for over a thousand homes, with capacity for future commercial areas and potential for significantly more housing as it evolves. Homes are thoughtfully positioned across challenging hilly terrain, elevated above restored native bush and ecologically valuable wetland areas in the gullies below.
The proximity to sensitive ecological zones created a clear mandate to embed best-practice urban design, ecological restoration, and hydraulic management principles throughout the masterplan. Unlike traditional greenfield subdivisions, Plimmerton Farm is a fully integrated development where hydrology, ecology, transport, architecture, and landscaping are designed to function as a cohesive whole, fostering a sustainable and connected community.
The project also introduces a denser and more diverse housing mix than is typical in greenfield developments. This approach enables parks, shops, and schools to be located within walkable distances, preserves and restores significant natural areas, and ensures homes remain affordable for buyers. It represents a unique opportunity to create an exceptional living environment that addresses the acute housing shortage in Porirua and the broader Wellington Region, while delivering ecological and community benefits.
Plimmerton Farm represents a visionary approach to urban development, ensuring a balanced and sustainable integration of residential, commercial, and lifestyle spaces. This project promises a thriving community where comfort meets convenience, and nature blends with modern architecture.
