Voxell was engaged by both the Landlord, IWC Investments, and the Tenant, New Zealand Police, to be the architectural lead for the Base Build and Fit out works for the Porirua Police Station.
We were charged with the responsibility of designing a balanced marriage between the strict requirements of a functional Police Station and a contemporary design aesthetic to inject a sense of personality into a practical space.
The building required significant upgrades and additions to meet the project brief and building code criteria. Most notably we added an additional floor to the full extent of the building, along with a new column grid and external bracing. The building also required significant mechanical, electrical and hydraulic upgrades to service the change in use.
The end result produces a space that offers muted tones, subtle forms and repetition, creating an environment of calmness in an otherwise busy police station.
