Perched at the crest of a hill in Eskview, Hawkes Bay, this home capitalizes on uninterrupted Eastern views of the local coastline and Napier city below.
As a primary aspect of the design brief, the home seeks privacy for its inhabitants. Turning its back on neighboring properties and orienting all internal outlook toward the immersive ocean outlook.
In its simplest form the home is an intersection of two primary volumes.
These volumes are oriented to suit the greater Hawkes Bay region and coastline. One is directed towards the Mahia Peninsula to the Northeast, while the other faces Cape Kidnappers and Napier City to the Southeast. The resulting pocket of space frames the outer extents of the Hawkes Bay coastline, and creates a panoramic view of the wider region - while privately nestled out of the sightline of any neighbours.
The intersecting volumes create a clear division of internal functions. The point of intersection serves as the main entry volume, providing a distinct and impactful sense of arrival. From this central location, three primary wings radiate outward; the communal and entertaining hub containing the lounge and kitchen, the master bedroom wing, and the guest/bedroom wing.
