The Grove

On the drawing board this month – The Grove

Centrally located on the confluence of two small streams in a peaceful corner, this project aims to capture and enhance the established leafy character of the site. Twelve attached dwellings of varying sizes are strung like pearls along the banks of aStream and Creek, broken into clusters, framed by the water’s edge, and set amongst large mature trees - even some nikaus!

The town houses have been designed to balance the needs of privacy and community, with private, partially screened decks overhanging the creek edge interfacing with dense new riparian planting, while deeply recessed entry porches provide shelter and a sense of address on the public side.  A strong family of roof forms references the established residential quality of the area, and the housing of early NZ modernist architects such as John Scott and Miles Warren.

We’re really pleased with the way this design advances and adapts the townhouse typology to its unique site, which in time will grow to be worthy of its context.
